We are currently accepting new residents at our Applewood Village office and accept most insurance plans.

Dr. Farida Hassan, M.D.

Farida Hassan

Farida Hassan, M.D. is a board-certified internal medicine physician, licensed in the state of New Jersey, with over 12 years of diverse clinical experience spanning inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, and long-term care settings. She currently holds the position of Medical Director at Pines Village in Whiting and serves as an attending physician both there and at Applewood Village in Freehold. Her previous appointments include roles at CentraState Medical Center, HMH Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and various skilled nursing and assisted living communities throughout the region.

Known for her patient-centered and empathetic approach, Dr. Hassan takes keen interest in geriatric medicine, chronic disease management, and preventive care. Offering extensive experience in these key areas, her practice emphasizes evidence-based strategies designed to minimize complications, promote healthy aging, and improve overall quality of life for her patients. A dedicated advocate for coordinated and compassionate care, Dr. Hassan remains committed to advancing clinical excellence and fostering strong, enduring relationships with those she serves.

Rivkah Epstein, PA-C

Rivkah Epstein is a physician assistant who has expertise in treating multiple skin conditions including psoriasis, eczema, mole removal, rashes, rosacea, skin infections, warts, and skin cancers. She graduated from 2017 from the School of Health Sciences at Touro College, Bay Shore, NY Campus. She is also affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Marc Cohen, D.P.M.

Dr. Marc Cohen is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine in podiatric medical and surgical practice. Dr. Cohen has a long history of rendering high quality care for foot conditions of all types. He also specializes in serving older adult populations and in podiatric, wound care. Dr. Cohen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College, NY and from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. His surgical residency was at Peninsula General Hospital in Rockaway, NY. Dr. Cohen is a Clinical Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and Former Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at Weil College of Medicine, Cornell Medical School.

Steven Lemberger, D.P.M.

Dr. Steven Lemberger, DPM, DACFAS, is a board-certified podiatrist with over 20 years of professional experience. He earned his Bachelor of Science in management from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. He received his medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City. As a medical student, Dr. Lemberger served as class president and was recognized as the student who best advanced podiatry. Dr. Lemberger went on to complete a three-year surgical residency at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and its affiliated hospitals. As a resident, he was honored as both resident of the year and chief resident. He is certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is dedicated to providing compassionate, informed, and personalized care to all his patients. He’s experienced in treating an array of conditions such as foot and ankle sprains, fractures, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, neuroma, and plantar warts.

Brent Rosenthal, D.P.M.

Dr. Brent Rosenthal, DPM is a Podiatric Foot & Ankle Surgery Specialist and has 44 years of experience. Dr. Rosenthal graduated from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and is affiliated with Centrastate Medical Center. His top areas of expertise include Athlete’s Foot, Bunions, Calluses, Tendinitis, Fungal Nail Infections, Gangrene, and Ingrown Toenails. Dr. Brent also has an extensive history of serving older adults.

Rebecca Coolahan, A.P.N., MSN, PMHNP-BC

Rebecca Coolahan is a board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse from Pelorus Elder and Behavioral Health Services. Rebecca received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Thomas Edison State College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Nutrition from the University of Delaware and she graduated with the honor of Summa cum Laude from Herzing University receiving her Master of Science Degree in Nursing. Rebecca provides on-site mental health evaluations and treatment that are unique to the conditions and symptoms of older adults. This includes developing a personalized and supportive plan of care with participation of the patient and family members, as preferred by the patient. The plan of care is monitored to determine the effectiveness of both non-pharmacological and any pharmacological interventions. Services are arranged by appointment only.

Pelorus Elder and Behavioral Health Services is a practice of Dr. Barnas, MD, D.F.A.P.A, a psychiatrist who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology — board-certified in both geriatric and adult psychiatry. He also holds certification in TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) from Duke University. He’s actively engaged in teaching as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). Dr. Barnas also participates as an investigator in research trials to advance treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.

Internal Medicine

Our physician is board-certified in internal medicine and has extensive experience providing primary medical care to older adults. Services include comprehensive health evaluations and medical treatment to help patients regain and maintain optimal well-being. Personalized prevention plans are also developed with patients to help avoid or minimize the onset of common chronic conditions, for example, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac and pulmonary diseases.

Podiatry

Our board-certified podiatrists assess and care for all types of ankle, foot, and toe conditions including bunions, hammer toes, and ingrown toenails. Other services include orthotics, diabetic shoe services, and foot and ankle surgery.

Mental Support Services

Mental Support Services provides a full complement of professional therapy for all types of mental health needs and disorders. Pelorus Medical Group is run by a dual board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Matthew Barnas, who is a leading expert in the field of adult and geriatric psychiatry. He and his Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners have extensive experience in evaluating and treating geriatric cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, Lewy body, and frontotemporal dementia. Dr. Barnas’ group also specializes in addressing mood and anxiety disorders in adults of all ages.
